Material | "Katha (story behind artefact): Madhubani as art form was developed by women, decorating their spaces and reaffirming their agency. This painting characterises womanhood’s deep connection with Mother Nature as well, highlighting the collaboration between an individual and their surroundings. The bold form and the colour-filled frame are a delight for the eyes that behold them, highlighted even more by the Dokra metal figurines cast into one side. Let this artefact serve as reminder that no matter what our culture, we all share our humanity! Riti (method): The confluence of the Madhubani and the Dokra styles is perfectly showcased in this artefact. The Madhubani style is created through glass-painting, created inhouse by our artisans utilising their incredible eyes for detail. The Dokra style is cast through wax into moulds in a centuries-old process known as Bharai Kaam. Thus, these two styles succeed in invoking a sense of collectiveness and relationship in their simultaneity. Read more about the Madhubani art form’s emphasis on women here! " |
